Creating with the Planets
For centuries, people have turned to planetary days and hours, whether herbalists seeking to amplify the power of their remedies or alchemists aligning with cosmic energies to unlock the full potential of their craft. Today, understanding and integrating planetary days and hours into our lives isn't just about enhancing spiritual practices—it’s about making our everyday actions more intentional and aligned with the natural rhythms of the universe.
Each day of the week is ruled by one of the seven classical planets, each linked to a specific deity. Take Monday, for instance—“Moon Day,” a time in ancient Greece when rituals to honor goddesses like Selene or Diana were most common.
Planetary days and hours serve as a cosmic schedule, guiding us to be in the right place at the right time. From casting spells to planting crops, cultures across the globe have relied on these ancient rhythms to determine the most auspicious moments for various activities. In the same way that moon cycles can guide our actions, planetary days and hours help us ride the cosmic tides of the universe. This guide will show you how to tap into this wisdom, bringing more abundance and flow into your life. The days of the week follow this celestial order.
Planetary Meanings in Astrology
Planetary days and hours don’t just tell time; they help you tap into the specific energy or vibe of any given moment. Each planet infuses its qualities into the day or hour it governs, offering a unique lens through which to view and plan your life. However, your personal relationship with these planets—shaped by your birth chart—can affect how you experience this energy. That’s why it’s essential to experiment and tune into your intuition.
For instance, while Venus is often associated with love and harmony, its energy might bring out a different side in you, perhaps making you feel more idealistic or even complacent. In such cases, you might find that Mercury or the Moon better aligns with your romantic endeavors. The key is to pay attention, experiment, and trust your own feelings during each planetary time.
Astrological timing, like any tool, has its limits, but it offers incredible insights for those curious about how the planets influence our lives. In astrology, each planet governs different aspects of our personality, psyche, and life events. By familiarizing yourself with their meanings, you can start to sync your daily activities with the cosmic flow, making this practice feel like second nature.
MONDAY
Shift your awareness from the mind to the heart today, allowing yourself to sink into the stillness of your being. The more time you spend in this heart-centered space, the more you'll tap into a deeper self-awareness, one that transcends the mind's chatter. Connect with the element of water, whether by sitting by a body of water or simply taking a soothing bath. Align yourself with the Moon's phases—quiet your mind during the new Moon, reflecting on the letting go that the waning Moon has encouraged. As the Moon waxes and reaches fullness, embrace the energy but be mindful not to overextend yourself, both physically and mentally.
TUESDAY
Tuesday brings the bold, assertive energy of Mars—a perfect day to tackle tasks you’ve been avoiding. While it may not be the best day for starting something new, it's ideal for dealing with challenges that need to be faced or for cutting ties with what no longer serves you. Channel Mars’ heat through physical activity, allowing any tension to be transformed and released. Remember, sometimes discomfort is necessary to break free from stagnation and reclaim your strength.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday’s energy, governed by Mercury, is all about mental stimulation and practical affairs. Use this day to dive into learning, whether it’s picking up a new skill, studying something valuable to you, or engaging in activities that sharpen your mind. This is a day for practical tasks that might feel mundane on other days. Approach them with curiosity, and you might discover unexpected insights.
THURSDAY
Under the expansive influence of Jupiter, Thursday is a day to broaden your horizons—both intellectually and spiritually. Seek out new experiences, whether through travel, exploration of new ideas, or delving into higher teachings. Reflect on the beliefs that guide you and how they serve your journey. Tune into your inner voice, trusting that the wisdom you seek is always within reach. As you explore the space between your breaths, you may find a deeper connection to the vast inner landscape of your being.
FRIDAY
Friday, ruled by Venus, invites you to savor life’s pleasures. Whether through movement, such as dance, or simply enjoying the beauty around you, let yourself experience joy and contentment. However, remember that true happiness doesn’t come from external sources. Instead of seeking fulfillment in things, people, or situations, find contentment in the present moment. Enjoy the fluidity of your body, the ease of your breath, and the simple pleasure of being alive.
SATURDAY
Saturday, Saturn’s day, is perfect for clearing out the excess and embracing simplicity. Whether through physical chores, fasting, or mental cleansing, this is a day to lighten your load. Fasting, in particular, can be a way to experience limitation and clarity. If a complete fast isn’t suitable for you, consider a juice fast or simply lightening your diet. For those who are more air-based in constitution, a day of silence might be more beneficial. By embracing discipline today, you prepare yourself for the week ahead, refreshed and recharged.
SUNDAY
Sunday, the day ruled by the Sun, has long been a time for reflection and reverence. Ancient civilizations honored the Sun's rhythm by beating drums, a ritual echoing the Sun’s steady march through the zodiac—one degree each day, marking the passage of time and the unfolding of seasons. This Sunday, attune yourself to the rhythm of life. Incorporate movement into your day, perhaps focusing on Sun Salutations in your yoga practice. If you can, soak up the Sun’s warmth, knowing that you, too, are a spark of that same primal light.
There are even Planetary Hours
Each planetary day is divided into 24 hours, with each hour ruled by a different planet in a repeating sequence. Unlike the standard 60-minute hour, planetary hours vary in length depending on the time of year and the length of daylight, which means these hours are in sync with the natural world. To find the planetary hour, simply calculate the time from sunrise to sunset, divide it into 12 equal parts, and follow the planetary sequence starting with the ruler of the day. For example, on a Monday, the first hour after sunrise is ruled by the Moon.
EXAMPLES
Understanding the Sun and Moon in Astrology
Sun Hour or Day:
The Sun represents our core essence—our individuality, creativity, and sense of self. During Sun hours or days, you might feel more in tune with who you are, ready to express yourself authentically and confidently. This is an ideal time for activities that focus on your identity, such as promoting yourself, giving public presentations, or advancing your career. However, be mindful of the potential for ego-driven behavior during these times.
Moon Hour or Day:
The Moon governs our emotions, moods, and sense of security. While the Sun reflects the energy we aspire to, the Moon reveals the energy we already possess. Moon hours or days are perfect for nurturing your inner world—whether that means sharpening your intuition, taking care of home and family, or connecting with your emotional needs. Since the Moon’s influence is ever-changing, remember that anything begun during this time may also be subject to change.
Understanding Astrological Timing
If you’re new to astrological timing, it might take some time to discover which planetary influences work best for your intentions. For example, combining a Mars-ruled day with a Solar hour might give you the boost you need to finish a long-neglected project. Or, if you’re struggling with discipline, you might find balance by working during a Saturn day and a Venus hour. Keep a journal to track your progress and experiment with different combinations to find what works for you.
Astrological timing is a powerful tool for manifestation, helping you navigate life’s currents with greater ease. While some may argue that there’s no such thing as the “perfect” time, aligning with the natural flow of the cosmos can make your journey smoother and more fulfilling. Remember, the goal isn’t perfection but rather finding moments of alignment that support your intentions and actions.
So let’s make a commitment to truly savor our coffee… Breathe in its aroma, pause and enjoy. Exhale and feel the warmth in your hands. Look out the window, or snuggle into a blanket. Feel the ground beneath you, and be fully there.
