Sense Hacking + The Clair Senses
“While it may sound far-fetched or even a bit woo woo, the term and concept of “sensehacking” arguably made its debut into the lexicon with the 2021 release of Oxford University professor Charles Spence’s book by the same title, promising to help readers use the power of their senses for happier, healthier living. The core idea of Spence’s guide to sensehacking is that our sensory stimuli have a more pleasurable side that can be “unlocked”, optimized, and perhaps even intervened with through various techniques. The end goal is to find ourselves more relaxed, productive, focused, joyful and perceptive, with the added bonus of improved sleep.
Spence told British Vogue, “Our senses have more impact over our well-being than any of us realise. The sights, sounds, smells of the environment, both those we are aware of and those that we are not, adding, “the more of your senses that nature stimulates the better for you it is.” From stress-reducing soundscapes to “dopamine dressing” (as fashion editors and energy healers sometimes refer to color intuition), here are five sense hack tips for optimizing your sensory input, inspired both by Spence’s original concept and indigenous wisdom.”
Sound | Tune Into Nature, Onness
Nature sounds have demonstrated a wide range of potential therapeutic benefits for our emotional and physical well-being. Breaking waves and falling rain, birds song, wind in the leaves, even whales calls are among the natural soundscapes that have been proven to physically alter the neural pathways in our brains, bringing about a calmer mind and nervous system. Our disconnection from the earth is being called into the light so we can not only reconnect and calm our nervous system but remember that we are one with the Earth, nature, each other, and Source Energy.
Smell | Boost Mood, Shift, and Remember
Whether through inhalation of a few drops of essential oils, smelling plants and flowers, the dirt, I beleive that our sense of smell is one of the strongest tools for healing and mindset shifts. By stimulating our olfactory sense, we work directly with the limbic system to regulate our energy field. this means it has an impact on our physical, metal, emotional, and spiritual well being. We can actually choose smells for different purposes mood boosting. nostalgia, raising our vibration and energy, nourishment when intentionally eating, or addressing chakra blocks or imbalances.
Sight | Dress Purposefully To Show Up for Joy
New research has revealed that “dopamine dressing” may actually contain a secret key to tapping into emotional regulation and happiness. Some refer to this trend in fashion as “Enclothed cognition” referring to the systematic influence that clothing has on the wearer's psychological processes”. I have always experienced this as dressing how I feel, mostly because much of my intuition includes body sensations and awareness as I am highly sensitive. Throughout my life it now makes so much sense why my closet is organized by color and sleeve length and that sometimes dressing for society and specific occasions went against this exact feel that I needed to dress for how I felt or wanted to feel and not an occasion. SO many times I was late or didnt want to go to events or show up to life. Beyond the color of our clothing, or how tio feels on the body is symbolism. So if you where something symbolic or imbued with personal meaning it is more likely to enhance how you feel and how you show up in the world.
Touch | Love yourself, Be loved
Oxytocin heightens the desire to touch and be touched, increases emotional connections, promotes a sense of calm and well-being, can reduce and reverse the effect of stress and even our perception of physical pain. Loving touch is a huge booster of oxytocin levels, so why not start by givng yourself attention first. Personally I use apps called Glowbe and Luvly to massage my face or do “face yoga” (usually done with your fingers or hands or guasha (using a tool made of natural stone or crystal). As we care for and love ourselves we draw others aligned with our frequency to us. So the more you care for you the more you will have a ripple effect as well as manifest things that you wish to draw to your field.
Taste | Forage and Connect with the Land
Establish a mindful and respectful relationship with the environment and its hidden treasures by foraging for herbs and natural plants. Wild foods and herbs embody the essence of the the Earth elements and magic, providing nourishment for both body and soul. By aligning with the changing seasons and discovering nature's restorative powers, one can reap the benefits of its healing effects on the gut and nervous system. Amidst the commotion of daily life, foraging presents an opportunity to surrender, indulge in the sensory pleasures of the natural world, and be rejuvenated by its abundance.
We can bring nature indoors, our homes can be shifting by also paying attention to our environments indoors through lighting, music, and fragrances… why not take it a step further with botanical sense-hacking? Mother Earth, along with indigenous peoples worldwide who have cared for her, offers an infinite array of "hacks" through her leaves, roots, seeds, bark, and more. Plant elixirs and medicines have the power to heal, fortify, transform, and support all of our senses, or they can be targeted toward one specific area. Keep reading for ways you can not only heal your physical body but connect with your clair or intuitive senses.
Awareness: Connect to your Intuition, Clairs
We hear a lot about the five senses: taste, smell, vision, hearing, and touch. However, an under-appreciated "sixth sense," called proprioception, allows us to keep track of where our body parts are in space. This sense is called proprioception ; it's an awareness of where our limbs are and how our bodies are positioned in space. And like the other senses — vision, hearing, and so on — it helps our brains navigate the world. Scientists sometimes refer to it as our “sixth sense.
"Sense Hacking" and Mindfulness Can Be Used to Develop Your Intuition, Clair refers to "clear" embodiment of our Intuition.
They work into our body, our physiology, as the communication bridge between our human and divine selves. We all have dominant intuitive senses and that we all connect with spirit in our own unique way. Our job is to figure out what that is and then sim embrace it. Developing your Clairs is tapping into your infinite potential.
The Clair senses are types of intuitive abilities that correspond with our already existing 5 senses: seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting. When you begin to tap into your intuition and spirit energy, your mind and body become flooded with mental impressions: thoughts, feelings, images, sounds, tastes and smells.
Think of a time you had a thought, image, sound or smell just seemingly pop in out of nowhere. This was you using a Clair sense without even realizing it. (See worksheet) It probably happens a lot more than you realize because you haven't built an awareness around it.
Developing this subtle perception, also known as psychic or energetic awareness, holds immense importance for personal growth and holistic well-being. It goes beyond the limitations of our physical senses and allows us to tap into a deeper understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us.
We All Have the Ability to Develop Our Intuitive Senses
Understanding energy is key to developing your innate intuitive abilities. Everything, and I mean everything is energy. So of course each and every one of us has the innate ability to pick up on and read energy, because we ARE energy, it just takes a little understanding and a lot of practice. Reading energy is natural and more than likely you have been doing without even realizing it. You do it when you walk past a stranger on a street, when you walk into a room and get a particular "vibe” or when you just have an instant knowing how your should respond in a situation.
Your Intuition is broken into different Clairs Senses associate with the 5 senses. They are how you receive and process information and experiences through your own energy. Information is constantly being broadcast to us, around us and through us. Think of it like radio waves, so it's really just a matter of learning how to tune into the right station.
To interpret what Source or the Universe is broadcasting, you actually tune into your five senses just as you do to navigate daily life. And just as you may feel that some of your senses are stronger than others your extrasensory perception or clairs, are being "broadcast" at higher frequencies to connect us to divine messages and inspiration.
Our clairs work with our body, our physiology, as the communication bridge between our human and Source, our higher self, guides, and spiritual supports. We all have dominant intuitive senses and that we all connect with spirit in our own unique way. Our job is to figure out what that is and then sim embrace it. Developing your Clairs is tapping into your infinite potential.
The most common Clair senses are types of intuitive abilities that correspond with our already existing 5 senses: seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting.
When you begin to tap into your intuition and source energy, your mind and body become flooded with mental impressions: thoughts, feelings, images, sounds, tastes and smells.
Think of a time you had a thought, image, sound or smell just seemingly pop into your head out of nowhere. This was a Clair sense sending you information or insights without you even realizing it. This happens more than you realize because you haven't intentionally created awareness around it.
Developing your subtle awareness, is known as psychic or energetic awareness, and holds immense importance for our health, personal growth and awakening to higher consciousness. Subtle perception or awareness goes beyond the limitations of our physical senses and allows us connect to a deeper understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us.

Empathy vs Clairsentience: Empathy is often mistaken for Clairsentience, although related, there's distinct concepts in the realm of intuitive and emotional abilities.
Here's how they differ:
Clairsentience is an extrasensory perception that extends beyond the realm of personal emotions. Those with clairsentient abilities can pick us on emotions, energies, or information from people, places, objects, or even spiritual entities without having prior knowledge of the situation. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. It involves feeling the emotions of others as if they were your own, often driven by a deep sense of compassion and understanding. Empathy is a natural human quality that enables us to connect with and relate to others emotionally. It's based on personal experiences and the capacity to put yourself in someone else's shoes, experiencing their emotions firsthand.
Example: An empathetic person might feel sadness when a friend is upset, experiencing a fraction of the friend's emotions as if they were their own.
Key Differences between Empathy vs Clairsentience:
Clairsentience involves receiving information beyond personal experiences, often from external energies, entities, or environments.
Empathy is based on personal experiences and shared emotions with others, driven by understanding and compassion.
Empathy primarily focuses on understanding and sharing human emotions.4. Boundaries:
Clairsentients often need to establish boundaries to avoid become overwhelmed by the influx of external energies.
Empaths might experience difficulty in establishing boundaries as naturally merge with others' emotions.
